Cambodian Gov’t Not Yet Approved Vietnam’s Proposal for Importing 2,500 Electric Taxis

Vingroup, the prominent Vietnamese conglomerate, has sought approval from the Cambodian government to initiate a groundbreaking project involving the deployment of 2,500 electric taxis in key cities such as Phnom Penh, Siem Reap, and Sihanoukville. However, the proposal has not yet been approved by Cambodian Prime Minister Samdech Hun Manet, as revealed by the press release from the Office of the Council of Ministers on 14 December 2023.

The request was presented during a meeting held in Hanoi on 12 December 2023, between Vingroup’s President and Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet. Vingroup expressed its earnest intention to invest in operating an electric taxi company within Cambodia. Yet, as of now, the Prime Minister has not granted the necessary permissions, keeping the project in anticipation.
