Cambodia Introduces New Law on Clean Water Management to Ensure Quality and Affordability

The government of Cambodia has recently approved the Law on Clean Water Management, which was officially promulgated by the Acting Head of State on 11 March, 2023. The new law, consisting of 15 chapters and 65 articles, aims to establish a legal framework for managing and developing the water supply service throughout the country.

The law’s main objectives are to ensure the quality, safety, sustainability, and affordability of clean water for the people of Cambodia and to promote their well-being and living conditions while preserving the environment.

The Law on Clean Water Management will enhance the water supply sector and promote better living conditions for the people of Cambodia. According to the law, the government will regulate and monitor commercial water supply services in Cambodia to ensure compliance with the required standards.

The former Ministry of Industry and Handicrafts initiated the law in 2016, and has been revised with the support of the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA). (Read more)
