Kampong Cham Authorities Put a Halt to Land Transactions in Mekong Area for Sustainable Agriculture

The provincial authorities of Kampong Cham have taken a decisive step to safeguard the pristine beauty of Prang Ta Sok, an area nestled in the heart of Taing Kork village, Taing Krasang commune, Batheay district, Kampong Cham province. In a move signifying their commitment to conservation, the authorities have officially suspended the purchase, sale, and transfer of land within this region designated for agricultural development. Instruction No. 005/23 S.N.N., issued on 11 September 2023, solidifies this decision.

This suspension arises from a growing concern within the Kampong Cham provincial administration regarding the encroachment and unauthorized transactions occurring within the Ta Sok watershed. The rampant clearing of land and illicit land sales have violated the sanctity of state public land.

The primary objective of this suspension is to deter further illegal encroachments onto state-owned public land. By doing so, the authorities intend to preserve these lands for the collective benefit of the community, with a particular emphasis on fostering advancements in agriculture.

To enforce these protective measures effectively, the Kampong Cham provincial authorities have laid out a clear plan of action:

  1. The Batheay District Authority has been entrusted with the crucial responsibility of preventing any encroachments, clearings, land transactions, sales, or transfers within the Prang Ta Sok Mekong River area. This directive immediately takes effect, with its contents being disseminated widely among local residents and the general public.
  2. Any decisions or agreements pertaining to land within this region that bypass the Kampong Cham Provincial Administration will be rendered null and void.

Furthermore, the authorities remain vigilant for any future government regulations that may further guide their actions in preserving this invaluable natural resource.
