Kratie Provincial Authorities Issue Warning Against Unauthorised Land Encroachment

Kratie provincial authorities have issued a stern warning to residents who have encroached upon Tuol Takin security land in Bos Leav commune, Chit Borei district. The warning comes with a deadline of the end of September, after which legal action will be pursued against those in violation, according to an official announcement by the provincial administration dated 21 September 2023.

The provincial administration has clarified that the Tuol Ta Khin (comprising Tuol Thmor Da, Tuol Chumor, and Tuol Trung Tea) security plots in Bos Leav commune were temporarily used by the public during flooding incidents to shelter cattle and other belongings. This usage, however, is not tantamount to private property rights.

In light of this, the provincial administration has granted residents encroaching on and residing within the Tuol Ta Khin security land a grace period. During this time, they are expected to cease encroachment activities, remove huts, fences, crops, and any other materials, and vacate the premises. This deadline for compliance is set for 30 September.

Failure to adhere to this directive will prompt the provincial authorities to deploy machinery for the purpose of clearing and reinforcing the security boundaries. Legal procedures will be pursued without exception against individuals who refuse to cooperate.

In a separate clarification, individuals who have resided on the land for an extended period and have received explicit confirmation from local authorities to occupy land along the road in Prek Kov village, extending 50 metres from the road’s edge, are permitted to continue living there on a temporary basis.

The provincial administration’s warning underscores the importance of adhering to land usage regulations and respecting security land boundaries in Kratie province.
