Tourism Vocational School Set to Empower Cambodia’s Tourism Sector Ahead of Khmer New Year 2024

Exciting developments are underway as the construction of the highly anticipated Tourism Vocational School progresses towards completion, aiming to welcome its first cohort of students before the arrival of Khmer New Year in 2024.

The construction site of the school, located in Phnom Penh, recently underwent inspection under the esteemed guidance of HE Dr. Thong Khon, Minister of Tourism, on May 18, 2023.

Minister Thong Khon emphasized the critical need for well-honed professional skills within the tourism sector. The establishment of the National School of Tourism, the Ministry’s inaugural initiative, will play a pivotal role in providing standardized skills training to enhance and expand the human resources pool within Cambodia’s tourism industry. This comprehensive approach will strengthen both the quality and quantity of skilled professionals, in response to the growing demands of the country’s thriving tourism sector.

With remarkable progress observed in the construction of the school building, Minister Thong Khon expressed confidence in meeting the planned timeline. Anticipations are high that the Tourism Vocational School will commence student recruitment during the second half of 2024, solidifying its commitment to nurturing talent and propelling Cambodia’s tourism industry to new heights.

The Tourism Vocational School will offer specialized training in a range of areas, including hotel services, food and beverage services, travel services, and tourism services. This diverse curriculum will equip students with the necessary expertise and knowledge to excel in their chosen field within the dynamic realm of tourism.

Moreover, the skills training program aligns with the esteemed National and ASEAN Qualifications Framework, encompassing Levels 1 to 3. Students can expect a comprehensive educational journey consisting of one year of foundational study, followed by two years of advanced diploma courses. The school will also serve as a distinguished Center of Excellence, acknowledging and honoring individuals with substantial experience in the field of tourism.

Notably, the Ministry of Tourism initiated the construction of the National School of Tourism Vocational School in November 2022, with a budget of 11 million Euros. The Phnom Penh location marks the first of two planned sites, with the second slated for Sihanoukville with Group 4 as the construction supervisor and Construction and Urban Combo Building JV Lotus Green as the constructor, ensuring the realization of a state-of-the-art educational facility.
