Two Key Cambodian Projects Funded by Japan Win International Awards in Japan

Two major infrastructure projects in Cambodia, funded by Japan, have been awarded at the prestigious 7th International Construction Awards in Japan. The Cambodia-Japan Friendship Bridge Rehabilitation Project and a cutting-edge DX technology infrastructure project were among the recipients of these international accolades.

The awards were presented at a ceremony chaired by HE Saito Tetsuo, Japan’s Minister of Land, Infrastructure, Transport, and Tourism, on 5 September 2024, with Cambodian officials including HE Tuy Ry, Cambodia’s Ambassador to Japan, and Mr. Sin Saray, Deputy Minister of Commerce, attending.

1. The first award went to the Cambodia-Japan Friendship Bridge Rehabilitation Project (1st Chroy Changvar Bridge), executed by Japanese companies OBAYASHI Corporation and Central Consultant Inc.
2. The second project, focused on enhancing infrastructure development through DX technology and drone equipment, was led by the Japanese company SkymatiX Inc. (Read more)

HE Tuy Ry commended the Japanese firms for their exemplary execution of the projects, thanking Japan for its ongoing support of Cambodia’s infrastructure development. The recognition of these projects highlights Japan’s commitment to improving Cambodia’s bridges and national roads, a key aspect of the country’s economic growth.

At the event, awards were granted in four categories:

1. “Award of Excellence” for a bridge in Haiti,
2. “Construction Project Category” for projects in countries such as Cambodia, India, Thailand, and Indonesia,
3. “SMEs Category” for projects in Sri Lanka, China, and other countries, and the “Pioneering Activity Category” for initiatives across regions including Thailand, the Philippines, and the United States.
