US Car Assembly Plant Inaugurated in Pursat Province

The new Ford car assembly plant, operated by RMA CAMBODIA, officially opened its doors in Krakor district, Pursat province, during a ceremony chaired by Prime Minister Hun Manet. This significant investment saw the company’s financial commitment expand from USD 21 million to USD 26.8 million, and the factory’s construction area increased from 5 hectares to an impressive 12 hectares.

In a notable upgrade, the plant has transitioned from a CKD (Completely Knocked Down) production line to an IKD-1 (Incomplete Knocked Down) setup. This enhancement will ramp up the plant’s production capacity to over 10,000 vehicles annually. The facility employs more than 4,000 workers, including a commendable 1,178 female employees and 2,303 technical personnel.

The inauguration was further highlighted by support from HE Heng Sour, Minister of Labor and Vocational Training, who announced plans to establish an Automotive Center of Excellence in Cambodia. This initiative will be a collaboration with the Bendigo Kangan Institute Group (BKI) of Australia, aiming to elevate automotive training and skills in the region.

RMA CAMBODIA initially opened a Ford manufacturing plant in Pursat Province on June 16, 2022, with an investment exceeding USD 21 million. The latest expansion marks a pivotal step in the local automotive industry and underscores Cambodia’s growing role in global manufacturing. (Read more)
