Study on revamping railway network concluded

China Railway Construction Corporation (CRCC) Limited has recently concluded its study on revamping the railway system in Cambodia which started in May.

According to Ministry of Public Works and Transport, China’s state-owned CRCC is compiling a report on the results of the study to submit to the ministry for discussion.

Kong Vimean, spokesman and undersecretary of state of the Ministry of Public Works and Transport, said that “the study has recently been finished but the ministry has not yet received the report on the result from the study and when report is submitted the ministry will check and discuss the report.”

However, Mr Kong Vimean expected that the report on the results of study will be discussed soon at the ministry.

Officers of CRCC arrived in Cambodia in May to conduct a study on the revamping of the railway system based on the existing lines of Phnom Penh – Preah Sihanoukville and Phnom Penh – Poi Pet.

The study was made at the request of Cambodian Prime Minister Samdech Techo Hun Sen, while leading high-ranking Cambodian officials to Beijing in April.

Last week, during his visit to Indonesia, H.E. Sun Chanthol, Minister of Public Works and Transport, asked Indonesia’s train manufacturer –PT Indonesia (INKA), to invest in Cambodia’s railroad.

According to the ministry, INKA agreed to send a team of officials to discuss railway development with local officials.
