Phnom Penh-Bavet Expressway Scheduled to Break Ground in Mid-2023

The Ministry of Public Works and Transport (MPWT) will accelerate work to break ground on the construction of the country’s second expressway connecting Phnom Penh to Bavet by mid-2023.

HE Sun Chanthol, Senior Minister of the Ministry of Public Works and Transport, provided the upgrade on the project on 21 September.

“We have already signed a Memorandum of Understanding with CRBC,” he said.

“The company will study and prepare to sign the concession agreement this year to start construction next year, we plan to break ground in mid-2023.”

However, HE Sun Chanthol did not disclose the estimated budget for the Phnom Penh-Bavet Expressway project.

According to Senior Minister HE Sun Chanthol, the Phnom Penh-Bavet Expressway was studied by a Chinese company CRIG, but the study was delayed, so the MPWT and the Ministry of Economy and Finance reported to PM Hun Sen to end the contract with CRIG and sign a new one with CRBC.
