Gov’t, Chinese firm drafting Mondulkiri airport project framework agreement

The Cambodian government and Chinese firm China Power International Group are speeding up work on drafting a framework agreement for the Mondulkiri airport project, in the hope that construction could begin soon after the framework agreement is complete.

According to the State Secretary of Civil Aviation (SSCA)’s spokesman HE Sin Chansereyvuth, the talk has already been ongoing for months, but both parties have yet to finalise terms.

“The framework agreement is very vital before implementing any investment project, but to date, the draft has not been completed,” he said.

The framework agreement is focused on the demands from both the firm and the government for the project.

After reaching the framework agreement, the firm will study further on the preliminary study results completed earlier this year. (Read more)

HE Sin Chansereyvuth earlier this year also mentioned that the construction of this project is expected to begin in 2023 as the investment firm will take at least one full year to conduct a comprehensive study on the recently completed preliminary one. (Read more)

Located in Sen Monorom commune in Oreang district, the airport will be built on an area of 300 to 600 hectares and is estimated to cost over US$60 million.
