Construction of 400-megawatt Power Plant in Kandal Complete in December

The construction of a 400-megawatt power plant in Lvea Em district of Kandal province is now 95% complete and is scheduled to go online by mid-December this year, according to Minister of Mines and Energy HE Suy Sem during his inspection on 26 November.

Run by diesel and gas, this power plant was once scheduled to go online in August. However, it was later delayed due to the slowdown in construction work. (Read more)

Ministry spokesman HE Victor Jona said recently that the delay in the construction of the plants was due to COVID-19. Meanwhile, the consumption of power this year has declined dramatically due to the shutdown of manufacturing factories.

The power plant is being built on a total area of 43 hectares, with an investment of US$380 million. The plant consists of two generators; a 200MW generator from Finland (built by China Gezhouba Group Corporation), and a 200MW generator from Germany (built by China National Heavy Machinery Corporation).
