PM Hun Sen: Akreiy Ksatr to become the next satellite city

Areiy Ksatr and Svay Chrum, on the east bank of the Mekong River from Phnom Penh, will be a huge satellite city in the future, especially after the bridge connecting Chroy Changva to Svay Chrum becomes a reality, according to Prime Minister Samdech Hun Sen.

The statement was made during the ground-breaking ceremony for the renovation of National Road 2 and 22 on 11 February.

“Areiy Ksatr is developing rapidly and will become a large satellite city in future, so we must build a bridge connecting that Areiy Ksatr from Chroy Changva,” said Samdech Hun Sen.

Regarding the long-waited Chroy Changva-Svay Chrum bridge, Samdech Hun Sen said in the ceremony that he will make this project as a priority to request additional budget from the total US$700 million loan budget recently provided by the South Korean government for 2019-2023. (Read More)

“According to the feasibility study, the bridge linking Chroy Changva to Svay Chrum will only cost around US$40 to US$ 50 million … the South Korean government has agreed to provide us a US$700 million loan for 2019 to 2023 fiscal years. Thus, there should be no problem to request financial aid for this project,” said Samdech Hun Sen.

“However, it is also our task to select which development projects we want to prioritise, and we would like to make this bridge as the priority,” he added.

Areiy Ksatr and Svay Chrum are currently the high potential areas, which have attracted a number of development projects.
