29 Community Water Stations Inaugurated in Banteay Meanchey Province

In a significant step towards improving access to clean water, 29 community water stations funded by World Vision Cambodia were officially inaugurated today. The ceremony was presided over by H.E. Chhay Rithsen, Minister of Rural Development, alongside other distinguished officials.

H.E. Um Ratay, Governor of the Banteay Meanchey Provincial Governor’s Office, announced that these new water stations will serve approximately 14,951 families across all five districts in the province. This initiative reflects a commitment to enhancing the quality of life for residents by providing reliable access to clean water.

“The incorporation of these 29 community water stations is a milestone for Banteay Meanchey, contributing significantly to our province’s water supply infrastructure,” Governor Ratay stated. Currently, Banteay Meanchey boasts 29 water supply companies and serves 138,258 households, representing 68.65% of the population. The water supply network reaches 606 out of 664 villages, with a total of 106 piped water systems in operation, including 72 community-based and 34 private networks.

In addition to the piped systems, the province features 170 drinking water stations—34 of which are community-managed and 136 operated privately. This infrastructure allows for a clean water usage rate of 73%, effectively benefiting a large segment of the provincial population.

Minister Chhay Rithsen commended the progress made in the province, emphasizing that such achievements are vital for elevating the living standards of its residents. “The establishment of these water stations plays a crucial role in our ongoing efforts to ensure that access to clean water is a reality for everyone in Banteay Meanchey,” he remarked.

The Ministry of Rural Development is actively working towards achieving 100% rural water supply and sanitation coverage by 2030. Minister Rithsen urged all relevant stakeholders to collaborate in addressing the pressing need for clean water and supporting the overarching aim of improved public health and quality of life.

As the community stands to benefit immensely from this development, the inauguration marks a hopeful milestone in Banteay Meanchey’s journey towards sustainable water management and enhanced living conditions for all its residents.
