Kratie City Drainage and Pumping Station Project Surpasses 68% Completion

Provincial authorities and ADB-funded initiative accelerate infrastructure development to eliminate seasonal flooding and boost local economic appeal

Kratie City is undergoing a significant infrastructural transformation as the construction of its comprehensive drainage network and rainwater pumping station reaches 68 percent completion. This development is a key sub-project of the Fourth Greater Mekong Subregion Corridor Towns Development Project (GMS4), supported by the Asian Development Bank (ADB) and overseen by the Ministry of Public Works and Transport. During a high-level inspection on January 31, 2026, Governor Va Thorn emphasized that the project is on track to meet its targets, providing a sustainable solution to the city’s long-standing sewage and flood management challenges.

The primary objective of this urban upgrade is to mitigate the impact of heavy rainfall and prevent flooding during the monsoon season. By channeling rainwater efficiently out of the urban center, the project directly improves public health, sanitation, and the overall aesthetic value of the city. Beyond flood protection, the improved infrastructure serves as a strategic catalyst for economic growth, making Kratie a more attractive destination for international investors and tourists alike.

This investment reflects the government’s broader commitment to modernizing secondary cities and fostering regional connectivity through improved logistics and public services. As the construction nears its final stages, residents can look forward to a cleaner, more resilient environment that supports both community well-being and commercial prosperity. The successful integration of these drainage systems is expected to redefine the urban living standard in Kratie, ensuring that the city remains a vibrant hub along the Mekong corridor.

It is worth noting that the Kratie City Sewerage and Rainwater Pumping Station Sub-project opened its construction site on March 5, 2025 to serve the needs of the city’s residents. The project is built on an area of 16.7m x 30m and has a concrete structure with a 13.4m x 18.5m drainage station, equipped with 3 water pumps with a capacity of 10,380 m3 per hour. (read more)
