Construction of Sewage System & Rainwater Pumping Station is Officially Ground Breaking in Kratie City

Ground was broken on a vital sewerage system and rainwater pumping station in Kratie city on 5 March 2025, backed by over USD 7 million in funding through the Asian Development Bank-supported Rabien 4 urban development project.

HE Poo Manit, Deputy Director General of the Project at the Ministry of Public Works and Transport, highlighted that the primary goal of this ambitious project is to manage rainwater drainage within Kratie city effectively. By mitigating the risk of flooding during the rainy season, the new systems aim to enhance residents’ overall safety and quality of life.

Adding to this sentiment, Heng Sotha, Deputy Governor of Kratie Province, stressed the multifaceted benefits of the rainwater drainage system. He noted that beyond preventing floods, the initiative is set to improve public health and hygiene, positively impact local livelihoods, and stimulate economic growth within the city.

The project comprises seven main components, reflecting a comprehensive approach to urban development:

1. Construction of a pumping station building with dimensions of 16.7 metres by 30 metres.
2. Development of a concrete pumping station measuring 13.4 metres by 18.5 metres.
3. Three high-capacity water pumps were installed to handle 10,380 cubic metres of water per hour.
4. Building a 110-metre-long, 7.5-metre-wide concrete road leading to the station.
5. The establishment of a main sewer network that spans 1,123 metres.
6. A water collection network will be created, which will be connected to the existing sewer system for an additional 496 metres.
7. Construction of a stone-lined water channel, measuring 1.5 metres wide, 3 metres deep, and extending 220 metres in length.

As Kratie city embarks on this transformative project, residents eagerly anticipate the enhanced infrastructure that promises to usher in a new era of urban resilience and improved living conditions.
