In a major boost to northeastern Cambodia’s transport networks, Prime Minister Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet officially inaugurated three upgraded national and provincial road sections in Kratie and Tboung Khmum provinces on the morning of August 25, 2026. Totaling 98.405 kilometers in length and completed at a cost of approximately $43.95 million, the major infrastructure milestone includes upgraded stretches of National Road 73 as well as Provincial Roads 377 and 377A.

Highlighting the long-term economic impact of the newly paved corridors, Prime Minister Hun Manet classified the routes as strategic economic arteries for the nation. The revitalized network connects agricultural production zones and local communities directly to Kampong Cham province, Phnom Penh, international border checkpoints, and key eco-tourism destinations across Kratie and surrounding territories.

According to technical details released by the Ministry of Public Works and Transport, the comprehensive improvement project encompasses 49.812 kilometers of National Road 73 in Tboung Khmum province alongside a combined 48.593 kilometers across Provincial Roads 377 and 377A in Kratie province. The extensive engineering works involved widening and upgrading former earth and damaged surfaces into high-standard Asphalt Concrete (AC) and steel-reinforced concrete pavements. The scope also included the construction of nine new bridges, the structural renovation of three existing bridges, and the installation of standardized traffic signage and safety posts throughout the corridor.

The execution of the $43.95 million project reflects the Royal Government of Cambodia’s dedicated drive to strengthen rural-urban connectivity and build climate-resilient transport infrastructure. By replacing flood-vulnerable and severely deteriorated road sections, the upgraded routes ensure year-round transport reliability, drastically cut transit times, reduce logistics costs for local farmers, and facilitate smooth travel for residents, students, and domestic and international tourists exploring the region.
