Cambodia Officially Inaugurates $252 Million National Road 10 Connecting Northwestern Hubs to Southwest Coast

The 198.5-kilometer strategic artery slashes travel distance by up to 372 kilometers, connecting three key provinces to boost regional trade and tourism

Prime Minister Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet officially inaugurated National Road 10 on October 1, 2026, ushering in a transformative milestone for Cambodia’s internal transport network and cross-provincial commerce. Spanning 198.518 kilometers in length, the $252 million strategic highway provides a direct corridor linking Samlout district in Battambang province, through Veal Veng district in Pursat province, to Khemarak Phoumin city in Koh Kong province. Presiding over the ceremony, Prime Minister Hun Manet described National Road 10 as a crucial economic lifeline that bridges the Kingdom’s northwestern agricultural heartland directly with its southwestern coastal zone while intersecting several major national transit lines.

Constructed as a two-lane Double Bituminous Surface Treatment (DBST) roadway, National Road 10 connects National Road 57 in Battambang directly to National Road 48 in Koh Kong. Official data from the Ministry of Public Works and Transport confirms that physical construction spanned 66 months, achieving final completion in May 2025. By bypassing the traditional, circuitous transit detour through Phnom Penh, the newly opened corridor dramatically reduces travel times and distances across western Cambodia. Specifically, commuters and transport operators traveling between Battambang and Koh Kong save 306 kilometers, while travel between Pailin and Koh Kong is shortened by 372 kilometers.

The strategic road serves as a primary driver for national supply chain efficiency, easing the movement of agricultural yields, agro-industrial goods, and consumer products directly to coastal ports and international markets. In addition to bolstering freight logistics and reducing transport costs, the highway significantly improves daily travel safety for local residents. Furthermore, by opening up access to the scenic mountain landscapes, natural gorges, and forest corridors along the route, National Road 10 is set to unlock substantial ecotourism potential across Battambang, Pursat, and Koh Kong provinces.
