Land ministry makes new construction law publicly available

The Ministry of Land Management Urban Planning and Construction (MLMUPC) has published the entire contents of the new construction law which His Majesty King Norodom Sihamoni of Cambodia signed on 02 November 2019 following ratification by the National Assembly.

According to a post on the ministry’s Facebook page on 07 November, the entire law is now available so the public, especially those engaged in the construction sector, can reference it as the basis for doing business in Cambodia.

The 31-page construction law is divided into 22 chapters and 113 articles and was initially compiled in 2017 by MLMUPC with inputs provided from experts at Japan’s Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism.

The construction law has been designed in response to the booming construction sector which needs to strengthen processes and operations, particularly among relevant stakeholders.

H.E Chhann Sorphal, Director General of the Construction of the Ministry of Land Management Urban Planning and Construction (MLMUPC), said that the law focuses on two areas that would promote well-being and sustainable development.

“Firstly, we strengthen the quality of development in the construction sector, secondly, we protect public and private interests,” he said.

In fact, from 2000 to June 2019, more than 45,605 projects were approved with an estimated investment value of more than US$45 billion to serve the commercial, tourist, public, and residential sectors.
