PM supports smart LED lampposts by Japanese firm for Sihanoukville

Prime Minister Samdech Techo Hun Sen has expressed his support for a Japanese firm to install smart LED lampposts in Sihanoukville province after the firm installed them in Phnom Penh and Siem Reap, according to the Prime Minister Facebook post.

The pledge came during a meeting between Samdech Techo Hun Sen and Yoshihisa Kainuma, director of MinebeaMitsumi where the firm reported on its investment progress in Cambodia held on 11 December.

The firm reported that, to date, it has invested about US$400 million in Cambodia which includes the production of 6,892 smart LED lampposts that it manufactured and installed in Phnom Penh and Siem Reap.

The firm requested support from the Prime Minister for the installation of more lampposts in other major provinces as the firm claimed that its products are good quality, reduce the use of electricity and help with the environment.

In response the Prime Minister said, “Cambodia has three poles namely Phnom Penh, Siem Reap, and Sihanoukville, meaning, we need to use smart LED lampposts to reduce electricity usage, help the environment, and encourage firms that manufacture the lampposts in Cambodia”.

The need for smart LED lampposts in Sihanoukville came as the province is currently undertaking construction on large-scale infrastructure, including construction of 34 roads using close to US$300 million investment. (Read more)
