New infrastructure achievements welcome Angkor Sankrata for New Year

New infrastructure developments around the Angkor Wat complex have been developed to welcome the Angkor Sankranta this coming New Year. The infrastructure improvements include the renovation of the road from Siem Reap International Airport to the intersection of Angkor Wat and another renovation of the Small Circuit road surrounding the Angkor Thom area.

The renovation of the road from Siem Reap International Airport to the intersection of Angkor Wat, with a total length of 3546 metres and width of 8 metres with AC road quality, was completed on Monday 28 February 2020, according to the Apsara Authority’s Facebook page.

Meanwhile, the Apsara Authority is also renovating the Small Circuit road surrounding the Angkor Thom area which has a total length of 2,476 metres, a width of about 6-7 meters, and is divided into two sections. The first section is 1,076 metres long from Pre Rup to Srah Srang temple, while the second is 1,400 metres from Srah Srang to Banteay Kdei temple and is scheduled to be completed in March.

H.E. Yit Chandaroat, Deputy Director-General of the Apsara Authority, reported that the main objective of the renovation project is to ensure the smooth and safe travel for locals as well as tourists. (Read more)

Notably, the Angkor Sankranta event will be held on 13-16 April 2020, in front of Angkor Wat, with the theme of “Angkor, the Past, Present and Future.” In 2017, over 1.6 million people attended this event, which reportedly provided an economic income to Siem Reap of US$95 million.
