CSP: Understanding Cambodian market fenestration

Choosing the glass window, known as glazing or fenestration, that fits your house can be one of the most overwhelming tasks to do. There are countless types and brands of glasses and frames out there in the market to choose from. Which one should we choose, and where should we start?

Ms Jamie Heang, Vice Director of CSP Window, an expert with more than eight years’ experience in Cambodia, shares with us the basic knowledge of fenestration, including how to choose the best types of frames and glass that make fit the most to each type of buildings.

Fenestration or glazing is the arrangement of windows in a building. The while process ranges from choosing frame types, window types, and glass types, to selecting after-installing services such as screening, security, furnishings, as well as motorization.

According to CPS, there are several main types of frames in today’s market, including timber, steel, aluminium, and U-PVC. However, the kind that fits Cambodia the most is aluminium and U-PVC framing since these two are durable and safe, given the humid and hot weather of Cambodia.

Meanwhile, the glass that CPS recommends is laminated and insulated glasses. Laminated glass refers to two-layer glass that safely holds together when breaks. The main features of laminated glass are safety protection, sound isolation, and UV resistance. Meanwhile, insulated glass is double glazing glass that is separated by a vacuum or gas-filled space. Given these features, the insulated glass helps reduce the heat coming through into the building.

Having the types of glass and frame in mind, the installing phase is also very important. One should select only specialized engineers to install the windows, both for safety and beauty standards. The specialized firm will also provide after-installing services such as screening, security, furnishings, as well as motorization.

Given the necessary knowledge, one should always consult with experts or specialized firms before deciding to proceed with fenestration, as there are many other factors involved. Experts can help you analyze the characteristics of your building so that they can design framing and choose the glass for you.

In the Cambodia market today, most customers take fenestration for granted. However, according to CPS, windows are life. Windows help improve light and air circulation in each building, which results in better living condition. Therefore, designing and installing proper windows at the right place can make a house more liveable, sustainable, and efficient.
