Skun-Kampong Cham road section to be expanded to four lanes

Ministry of Public Works and Transport has started conducting a study on a project of expansion of a road section of National Road Number 7 between Skun roundabout and Kampong Cham city from two lanes to four lanes, a move is said to facilitate transportation.

The study on road expansion was made public during the ministry’s delegation led by H.E. Sun Chanthol, Senior Minister and Minister of Public Works and Transport paying a visit to inspect the NR7 condition on June 10.

“The ministry is conducting a study on expanding NR7 from Skun roundabout to Kampong Cham city from two lanes to four lanes before submitting a request to ask for the principle to the government,” H.E Sun Chanthol said.

The ministry’s spokesman Mr Vasim Sorya told Construction and Property Magazine on June 11 that it is a part of road improvement projects between Kampong Cham to Stung Treng province, passing through Kratie province stretching over 46 km. The project will cost between US$1 million to US$2 million per kilometre.

“Government has aimed to expand the road for a long time but we have focused on prioritized roads. And because there are many roads to go through Kampong Cham. But now, the ministry starts to work on expanding the road section to facilitate the flow of commuters and goods transport.” Sorya said.

Sin Chanthy, president of Cambodia Logistics Association, told the Construction and Property Magazine on June 11 that he has observed the government through the Ministry of Public Works and Transport, an active ministry who has worked to expand consecutively roads which contribute to facilitate inter-province transportation of goods and products or transport for exports.

“Road expansion is good for transportation because activities of transportation have notably increased but our roads are still not in that good condition costing a lot of time to travel,” he said.

“We fully support of expanding road, building road infrastructure with quality,” he added.

According to Mr Vasim Sorya, the ministry is prioritizing in expanding roads from two lanes to four lanes at the area of cities of each province stage by stage based on prioritizing principle basic.
