Land Encroachers Ordered to Demolish Properties Immediately for SR Road Renovation

The Siem Reap Provincial Administration has called for the demolition of any illegally-built properties that affect the renovation of 38 roads within 10 days starting from 23 September onward.

According to the announcement on 23 September, the illegally-built properties includes those located on public roads, walkways, canals, and other state lands, especially the locations needed for the renovation project.

Those encroachers have 10 days, starting from 23 September to 09 October to self-demolish. Otherwise, the provincial administration will take legal action without taking responsibility for any damage and loss of property of the citizens.

The provincial administration has so far cleared most of the issues that affect the renovation project, including the section from NR 6 to the south of 7 Makara road. As of 25 September, 93 affected plots of land and 10 families have been resolved by the provincial working group, except for only three families.

The project to renovate the 38 roads has a total length of over 98km and will cost approximately US$150 million, and is set to begin late this month. (Read more)
