Gov’t Selects Chinese Firm to Develop Mondulkiri Airport

The government has officially approved the construction of the Mondulkiri airport and chosen a Chinese company to study and implement the project.

According to the Office of the Council of Ministers’ announcement on 31 December, the government has selected Powerchina International Group to study and develop a new regional airport project in Mondulkiri province and allow the State Secretariat of Civil Aviation to lead a framework agreement with the developer.

Located in Sen Monorom commune, Oreang district, the Mondulkiri airport project has been studied since 2019 and will be completed next year. It was planned to be built on 300 hectares of land but has been expanded to 600 hectares.​ (Read more and more)

On the morning of 31 July, Mondulkiri Governor H.E Svay Sam Eang broke ground on the construction 60 metres wide with two lanes and 3.6km long of the new airport entrance road. (Read more)

Besides the airport project, the government is also mulling, transforming Mondulkiri province into an international tourism destination. The 2020-2035 master plan will be completed by late this year and is expected to be approved by the government by early next year. (Read more)
