New US$1.5 billion Phnom Penh Airport Set for 50% Completion by End 2021

Chairman of renowned local conglomerate Overseas Cambodia Investment Corporation (OCIC) Neak Oknha Pung Kheav Se said that OCIC aims to have the construction of the new US$1.5 billion Phnom Penh International Airport 50% complete by the end of 2021.

Neak Oknha Pung Kheav Se told Construction & Property Magazine earlier this month that according to the plan, the construction will be at least 50% complete by the end of this year, but the actual work can vary depending on the current situation [such as the pandemic].

Neak Oknha added the current estimated completion should be around 20% to 30%, as he had no official documents on hand during the interview.

Chairman of Kandal Provincial Council HE Mao Phirun also said on 22 February that the construction process of this large-scale airport is going smoothly.

“The development project is proceeding according to the plan and will be finished in 2023. However, not all four runways will be completed, only one or two are expected in the first phase. The rest will be gradually developed,” said HE Mao Phirun.

As of early 2021, the work on land dispute resettlement for this airport is approximately 43% completed, of which the total issues settled cover more than 1,100 hectares, or equivalent to 43.75% of the total construction area of over 2,600 hectares. (Read more)

This new Phnom Penh International Airport is a massive investment project by OCIC stretching over a 2,600-hectare plot in Kandal province. Upon completion, this would be the ninth-largest airport in the world and designated as a 4F class airport. (Read more)
