Siem Reap 38-Road Renovation Project 30% Complete Despite Surge in Community Outbreak

Amid the recent surge in COVID-19 community transmission, construction on the 38-road renovation project in Siem Reap is still proceeding smoothly and will be completed as scheduled by early 2022, according to Siem Reap city governor Nuon Putheara.

Mr Nuon Putheara said on 15 March that the project is around 30% complete so far. Meanwhile, the current ongoing works include paving, upgrading the drainage system, and burying cables underground.

He added that with this current speed of construction, they plan to finish the whole project as scheduled by early 2022.

With a total length of 108km and estimated to consume a total budget of US$140 million, this project stretches across 12 districts of Siem Reap city and a part of Prasat Bakong and the 38 roads will be well-connected with other main road systems to ease traffic congestion and reduce accidents. The government also decided to reallocate the remaining budget from Sihanoukville’s 34-road renovation project to upgrade the sidewalks along the Siem Reap River. Another separate US$9-million budget has also been reallocated to restore rainwater and sewage systems.
