Progress Update on Five Affordable Housing Projects in Cambodia

To date, Cambodia has a total of five approved affordable housing projects, three of which are landed properties with a total of 8,331 houses, and two others are co-owned buildings with a total of 7,256 units, according to the latest data from the Ministry of Land Management, Urban Planning and Construction (MLMUPC).

Here is a progress update on those five projects:

1) Arakawa Affordable Housing Project: Located along Russian Federation Blvd in Phnom Penh, this project is a co-owned building type with a total of 2,960 units. Construction of the first phase is about 97% complete, while the second phase has reached 45%. The company has thus far sold over 1,800 units.

2) Grand Park Affordable Housing Project: Located in Toul Key village, Por Senchey district, the project has a total of 214 houses. Overall, construction of the first phase is complete while the second phase is just 1% complete. To date, around 200 houses have been sold.

3) Borey Sen Monorom Prek Taten Affordable Hosing Project: Located in Sleng Dey Dus village, Ponhea Leu district, Kandal province, this project is being developed by B&BM Development Co Ltd. To date, the construction is over 82% complete. Meanwhile, at least 1,500 houses have been sold.

4) World Bridge’s Serei Mongkul Satellite City: Located in Takhmao city, Kandal province, the project has a total of 2,457 houses. The first phase is 100% complete while the second phase is about 70% complete. Total sales have reached more than 2,300 units.

5) Sokha Residence Affordable Housing Project: Located in Poipet city, this project is a co-owned building with a total of 4,296 units. Ground was broken on Tthe project was in late 2019, but construction has been delayed due to the COVID-19 crisis.

Besides these five projects, private companies are also proposing to build more affordable housing projects. For instance, projects in Kampong Chhnang and Siem Reap are currently being reviewed by the government. (Read more)
