MoE to Include Green Technologies in SHV Multipurpose SEZ Master Plan

The Ministry of Environment (MoE) is evaluating and exploring new technologies to be used in the Sihanoukville multipurpose SEZ master plan to promote green and effective development.

The technology evaluation project was announced on Wednesday 11 August during an official meeting chaired by the Secretary-General of the National Council for Sustainable Development HE Van Monineath.

According to the HE Van Monineath, this project aims to strengthen the human resources working on this project and to seek new solutions to make the SHV mega-development project beneficial to the economy, environment, culture and society.

“The action plan will focus on reducing the negative impacts on the environment by taking climate into consideration,” said HE Monineath.

“Thus, we will utilise new technologies as much as possible to strictly monitor the energy sector, industrial processes, water use, waste disposal and other related works,” he added.

The master plan to transform Sihanoukville into a multi-purpose special economic zone has been announced by the government for some time.

In June 2021, PM Hun Sen issued a sub-decree establishing a new inter-ministerial committee to speed works on this project. (Read more)
