NR48 Renovation Project to Begin in November; Construction Agreement Signed

The Korean-funded NR48 renovation project connecting NR4 to Koh Kong province is scheduled to begin construction on 1 November, as the construction agreement contract has been already signed between the relevant parties.

The signing ceremony was held on the morning of 23 August via ZOOM under the chairmanship of Minister of Public Works and Transport HE Sun Chanthol and joined by the representatives of construction firms, technical consultants, companies, and other stakeholders.

Connecting Sre Ambel district to Khemarak Phoumin city, the 148km road will be upgraded with a length of 122.9 km having two lanes and another of 25.1 km having 4 lanes.

The project is expected to cost a total of US$78.3 million, of which over US$65 million is a concessional loan from South Korea under the cooperation fund of the Economic Development Cooperation Fund of the Republic of Korea, and US$13 million is a government budget. (Read more)

Meanwhile, the construction company is ILSUNG & HANIL Joint Venture and the technical inspection is granted to KCI & KECC Joint Venture.

This road is part of the ASEAN Highway 123 that connects Cambodia to Thailand and connects the eastern Indochina Peninsula to the western part of the Indochina Peninsula in Dawai, Myanmar.

Along NR 48, there are four special economic zones including Koh Kong SEZ, Suoy Chheng SEZ, Kirisakor Koh Kong SEZ, and Ratana SEZ, as well as the Kirisakor tourist area.

The upgrade will help reduce travel time and transportation costs and will also increase regional economic development, especially with neighbouring countries.
