No New Loan Agreements Signed in H1 2021 as Most Development Projects Delayed

In the first half of 2021, the Cambodian government has not signed any new concessional loan agreements as new development projects are under study and preparation phase and are delayed due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

According to a report from the Ministry of Economy and Finance, accumulatively, from 1993 to June 30, the government has signed concessional loan agreements with development partners for a total value of US$14.84 billion.

Among all the loan, 84% was for infrastructure development, while other 16% went to other priority sectors.

During the same period, the government disbursed only a total of US$10.5 billion from development partners, accounting for 68% of the total borrowing.

Again, the majority of which at around 81% was used for financing public investment in the infrastructure sector and 19% for other prioritised sectors, respectively.
