CCA joins workers minimum wage draft law seminar

The Cambodia Constructors Association (CCA) proposed that the labour ministry reconsider and include the topic of construction workers wages in the new law draft related to workers’ minimum wage during its attendance at the official seminar.

The seminar was organised by the Ministry of Labor and Vocational Training on 10 April, where related officers from both government agencies and the private sector gathered to discuss the new draft law on the minimum wage.

“Actually this draft law focuses on the garment workers rather than the construction workers. The reason is that the board thought that construction workers already have a suitable salary,” said Mr Oum Tivorn, the CCA representative who joined the seminar.

“However, construction workers types of jobs are more risky than garment workers and do not receive as much welfare as the garment workers do. In this case, different terms and conditions related to the minimum wage should be applied on different types of jobs. Therefore, I have suggested that the issue related to construction workers should be included in this new draft law or even in the next draft,” he added.

At this stage, the board is still discussing and is yet to conclude its findings as more amendments will be made to ensure that this new law will be fair and suitable for every related sector.
