Ratanakkiri Governor Announces Plans to Build Large Airport Connecting Four Provinces

The Ratanakkiri provincial administration has set aside nearly 1,400 hectares for the construction of a large airport to connect the four contiguous provinces. This was stated by HE Nhem Sam Oeun, Governor of Ratanakkiri Province at the press conference on “Success in the past five years” on the morning of 4 April 2023.

HE Governor expressed his commitment to having an airport in Ratanakkiri province and noted that the airport would be a significant achievement for the region. He added that the airport would be built in the centre of Banlung, which will feature a large garden, and the construction is expected to begin at the end of the year. The government also plans to unveil the 1,400-hectare airport in the Lumphat district.

He added that on behalf of the provincial administration, he would try to have an airport in this northeastern province as much as possible.

The old airport in Banlung has been relocated from the Secretariat of Civil Aviation to the provincial administration for the development of various infrastructures, including public parks and the Independence Monument. These developments will enhance the tourism industry in Ratanakkiri province.

Mondulkiri province, which is adjacent to Ratanakkiri province, also plans to build an airport in Sen Monorom commune, Oreang district, on an area of 300 to 600 hectares with an estimated investment of more than $60 million. (Read more)
