Urbanland Celebrates 10 Years of Success

Urbanland, the home-grown development company known for its innovative and inspiring spaces, is celebrating its 10th anniversary this year. Since its inception in 2013, the company has successfully delivered a variety of award-winning projects, including Embassy Residences, Embassy Central, Raintree, Treeline Hotel, KMH Park, and K Mall.

Though its iconic projects have become landmarks in Phnom Penh’s dynamic urban environment, the company itself has maintained a humble profile. Now, on the occasion of its anniversary, Urbanland is shedding light on the team behind its success and celebrating the culture and values that have led to its remarkable achievements.

From the outset, Urbanland’s vision was to create inspirational spaces for people to live and work in. After ambitiously transforming a quiet inner city culdesac into one of Phnom Penh’s first high-rise serviced apartments, Embassy Residences, the fledgling company turned its attention to the lack of inspiring commercial office space in the city. The result was Raintree, Cambodia’s first boutique office building, designed to nurture a community of professionals, creatives and entrepreneurs.

From their offices within Raintree, Urbanland delivered their second serviced apartment building, Embassy Central, before challenging themselves to embrace a wider range of development projects. The popular urban resort, Treeline, was their first venture into hospitality, preparing the foundations for the ambitious, mixed-use community development of KMH Park.

Anchored by the iconic ISI Tower and K Mall, a lush shopping oasis, KMH Park represents the pinnacle of Urbanland’s passion for urban renewal. With Phase 1 completed, the mission is set to transform the declining industrial area into a vibrant, sustainable community.

For Co-Founder and CEO Hok Kang, crafting impactful spaces and communities is at the heart of everything he does. “We measure our success by the positive impact our projects have on the lives of people and are proud of what we have contributed so far. What excites us most is the potential for even greater contribution in the future.”

With a team approaching 300 people, Urbanland is united under a common vision to help transform the urban landscape of Phnom Penh. They wish for a city that increasingly values public space, nature, quality of life, and well-being among all citizens – a sentiment reflected in their slogan, ‘Belief in Better’.

These fundamental principles underpin their latest project, Borey Chankiri, a community and nature-focused development in Phnom Penh’s up-and-coming southside. This project encapsulates the experience, values, and wisdom that the Urbanland team has been finessing in their first decade.

As their first Borey development, Urbanland dedicated two years of focused research into understanding what aspirational Cambodians desire in a home. As the company prepares to welcome families into the community this year, it is evident that the research has paid off. With sales exceeding 85%, the project has quickly become a leading development in the area and a clear validation of Urbanland’s people-centred approach.

Looking forward to the next decade, Urbanland expects to continue its path of purposeful development. “In order to learn, we open ourselves up to a diverse and challenging portfolio of projects, but the fundamentals are still the same: the beauty of space-making and human-centred design. Responding to the need for a better quality of life in modern Cambodia is what drives us. It is in our DNA,” said Hok Kang.
