Cambodia’s Abundant Agricultural Raw Materials Present Lucrative Opportunities for Agro-Industrial Investment

During a gathering with approximately 20,000 garment workers from six factories in Kampong Cham province on June 16, Samdech Hun Sen, the Prime Minister of Cambodia, expressed his optimism regarding Cambodia’s potential to attract more agro-industrial investment. The Prime Minister highlighted the country’s abundant agricultural raw materials as a key factor in drawing investors to the agro-industrial sector.

In his address, Samdech Hun Sen acknowledged Cambodia’s success in attracting investment in the garment industry but emphasized the need to establish processing factories that add value to local agricultural resources. He emphasized the importance of developing agro-industry, connecting with foreign markets, and transforming Cambodia’s agricultural products into higher-value goods.

“We aspire to process our agricultural products, attract industries in the agro-industrial sector, and establish agro-businesses that can connect to the international market, thereby enhancing the value of our local agriculture,” stated the Prime Minister.

Looking ahead, Samdech Hun Sen envisioned Cambodia becoming the world’s leading cashew producer, leveraging its favorable conditions for cashew cultivation and the soaring global demand for cashews. In 2022 alone, Cambodia harvested an impressive 1.18 million tons of cashew nuts.

The Prime Minister’s vision for agro-industrial investment aligns with Cambodia’s goal of diversifying its economy and tapping into the vast potential of its agricultural resources. By attracting investors to establish processing factories and capitalize on the richness of agricultural raw materials, Cambodia can elevate its position as a key player in the global agro-industrial market.
