Chinese Company to Establish Intelligent Agricultural Zone on 20,000 ha in Cambodia

A visionary stride towards modernizing Cambodian agriculture has emerged as Chinese agricultural powerhouse Danong reveals plans to cultivate an innovative, intelligent agricultural zone sprawling across an expansive 20,000 hectares. This groundbreaking initiative comes to light following a momentous dialogue between HE Duong Dara and Mr. Zhao Shujie, President of Danong Company.

The ambitious venture envisions a holistic agricultural ecosystem, meticulously designed to integrate cutting-edge practices into Cambodian agricultural landscapes. Mr. Zhao Shujie, outlining the strategic blueprint, highlighted four pivotal investment domains: 1) pioneering animal breeding methodologies, 2) elevating animal husbandry practices, 3) optimizing animal feed production techniques, and 4) fostering the growth of cassava crops.

In parallel, Danong Company is steadfastly committed to erecting robust infrastructure spanning the envisaged 10,000 to 20,000-hectare expanse. This comprehensive framework encompasses pivotal components such as irrigation networks, power supply facilities, and essential agricultural services. Strikingly, this comprehensive support extends to local investment partners and Cambodian farmers alike, epitomizing the fusion of innovation and empowerment.

Elevating this transformative vision, Mr. Zhao Shujie unveiled an additional dynamic by spotlighting the establishment of an expansive warehouse in Sihanoukville. This strategic move is poised to propel Cambodia’s agricultural prowess onto the global stage, enabling the exportation of an impressive 40 million tons of animal feed annually.

Looking ahead, Danong Company is poised to make further inroads by laying the foundation for a cutting-edge fertilizer manufacturing hub and a sprawling sanitation center, both situated in Sihanoukville. These vital infrastructure components intend to galvanize Cambodian agricultural exports to China, stimulating a new era of economic dynamism.

The groundbreaking proposal underscores the company’s pledge to meticulously assess the agricultural terrain, inclusive of vital factors such as energy provision, water resources, transportation networks, and adherence to Cambodia’s legal framework. This diligence sets the stage for a transformative partnership that is expected to not only uplift the nation’s farmers but also contribute to increased revenue streams and governmental taxes.

Underscoring the overarching impact, Cambodia’s agricultural landscape has experienced a momentous surge, with the export of 4.5 million tons of agricultural produce during the initial seven months of 2023, amassing an impressive revenue of US$2.6 billion. These statistics, attributed to the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry, and Fisheries (MAFF), accentuate the paramount role agriculture plays in Cambodia’s economic trajectory.
