Gov’t Launches Special Task Force for Tonle Sap Land Registration to Safeguard Natural Heritage

In a decisive move to protect the invaluable natural resources of the Tonle Sap region, the Cambodian government has issued Decision No. 37, dated 6 February 2024, to establish a dedicated commission for land registration. Recognizing the critical importance of preserving these resources for national identity and the prosperity of future generations, the government aims to ensure clear management and registration of Tonle Sap land.

The commission’s key responsibilities include:

  1. Overseeing the registration of Tonle Sap land, encompassing both state-owned and privately held land.
  2. Updating the boundary map of Zone 1, Zone 2, and Zone 3 within the Tonle Sap region.
  3. Leading the demarcation of flooded forest border posts in Area 3 of the Tonle Sap region.
  4. Implementing measures to prevent and address the illegal occupation of state land.
  5. Compiling and presenting comprehensive reports on the progress and outcomes of the registration efforts to the Royal Government.
  6. Undertaking any additional responsibilities assigned by the head of the Royal Government.

The task force, comprising 15 members, is under the leadership of the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Land Management, Urban Planning, and Construction. This strategic initiative reflects Cambodia’s commitment to the responsible stewardship of its natural heritage and the sustained well-being of its people.
