Siem Reap Authorities Grant 3,426 Land Titles to Residents in Four Villages

Siem Reap provincial authorities have ceremoniously presented 3,426 land titles to residents residing in four villages: Roka, Kork Dong, Proma, and Khnar in Krabei Riel commune, Siem Reap city, Siem Reap province.

The land titling ceremony, overseen by Mr Samkol Sochetra, Deputy Governor of Siem Reap Province, and relevant departments, took place on 3 April 2024, signifying a significant step towards securing land rights for local communities.

The distribution of land titles in these villages is as follows:

1. Roka village, comprising 1,075 plots of land, with 891 plots eligible for title issuance;
2. Kork Dong village, with a total of 1,137 plots, of which 901 plots have received titles;
3. Proma village, presenting 1,243 plots, with 656 plots now officially titled; and Khnar village, boasting 1,112 plots, of which 978 plots have been granted titles.

Mr. Bou Chum Sambath, Deputy Director of the Department of Land Management of Siem Reap Province, emphasised that the distributed plots are exclusively for those without disputes concerning archaeological sites or conservation areas. Plots under the jurisdiction of the Department of Water Resources and Meteorology are also included. However, plots entangled in disputes will undergo thorough review and resolution procedures by the Administrative Commission before title issuance.

During the ceremony, Deputy Governor Sochetra urged recipients to safeguard their land titles and utilise them judiciously to prevent loss. He underscored the importance of land titles in stimulating family economies and mitigating land disputes, reinforcing the significance of this initiative for community development and stability.
