Kratie Authority Halts Illegal Land Sales & Confiscates Forest Encroachments

The Kratie Provincial Administration has taken decisive action to revoke all transactions involving forest land within protected areas, as announced on 6 May 2024.

In response to persistent encroachments observed over the years, including unauthorised cultivation, construction, and fencing, the provincial authorities have moved swiftly to address the issue. Despite repeated preventative measures since 2019, the encroachment activities have persisted unabated.

In accordance with the law, the provincial authorities have initiated the confiscation of forested areas cleared for encroachment, agriculture, construction, and fencing within protected zones. Such actions, including logging, land encroachment, forest burning, and unauthorised construction, are deemed violations under Article 61 and Article 62 of the Law on Protected Areas.

Urgent directives have been issued to cease all encroachment activities on forest land, including planting, construction, and fencing, throughout Kratie province. Individuals failing to comply with these mandates will face legal repercussions in alignment with established procedures.
