MOE & MOL Signed MoU to Reduce Plastic Use in Workplaces to Boost Productivity

A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) aimed at reducing plastic use in enterprises and establishments to enhance the working environment and increase productivity has been signed by the Ministry of Environment and the Ministry of Labor & Vocational Training. This significant agreement was presided over by HE Eang Sophalleth, Minister of Environment, and HE Heng Sour, Minister of Labor & Vocational Training, during a ceremony held at the Ministry of Labor on 20 May 2024, according to official sources.

HE Eang Sophalleth highlighted the MoU as a vital contribution to the nationwide campaign against plastic use, aligning with the environmental chakra strategy that focuses on cleanliness, green initiatives, and sustainability. This effort supports the “Today I do not use plastic bags!” campaign, which aims to make Cambodia cleaner and greener.

Minister Heng Sour added that the MoU represents a joint effort to ensure a conducive workplace environment, thereby promoting growth, efficiency, and productivity. The reduction of daily plastic waste, which poses significant environmental risks, is also a key objective of this initiative.

As of the first quarter of 2024, Cambodia imported 12,336.38 kg of plastic, marking a 75% decrease compared to the same period in 2023. The Ministry of Environment attributed this significant reduction to the success of previous plastic reduction campaigns. (Read more)
