Bridge Project Across Bassac River Hits Milestone: 16% Completion Achieved

The much-anticipated bridge project connecting Chak Angre Krom to Prek Pra over the Bassac River has officially reached a significant milestone, now standing at 16% completion after nearly a year of construction. This update was shared by HE Phorn Rim, spokesperson for the Ministry of Public Works and Transport.

Construction on the bridge began on 19 February 2024, and the progress indicates that the project is on track with its timeline. Designed to alleviate the growing traffic woes in the bustling capital, this bridge is expected to significantly reduce congestion on the Monivong Bridge. Notably, it will connect National Road No. 1 in Chbar Ampov to key locations, including the south of Techo International Airport and Takhmao City.

The new infrastructure is poised to have a transformative impact on the region, enhancing socio-economic interactions between Phnom Penh and its surroundings. As the bridge facilitates smoother transportation and logistics, it will contribute to accelerating local development, redefining how goods and people move across the area.

Spanning a total length of 1,650 metres—comprised of an 845.70-metre bridge and 804.30 metres of connecting road—the structure will boast a road width of 27 metres. The project is being executed by Shanghai Construction Company, with consultancy from Guangzhou Wan An, backed by a concessional loan of USD 60.2 million from the Chinese government. The Royal Government of Cambodia is also contributing resources to ensure that challenges, such as demining and related taxes, are effectively managed. (Read more)
