Gov’t Confiscates Nearly 30,000 Hectares of Illegally Occupied Land in Stung Treng

The Department of Agriculture, Forestry, and Fisheries of Stung Treng Province has announced the confiscation of 28,872.477 hectares of land illegally encroached upon by various individuals. Occupants have been instructed to dismantle their structures and vacate the land by 30 June 2024. This directive follows measures to prevent and reclaim illegally occupied land, as detailed in an announcement on 11 June 2024.

The affected land spans multiple locations, including Ban Bung village, Phluk village, Phluk commune, Sesan district, O Khleang area, Kanchanh Teuk village, Kanchanh Kork village, Samrong village, Sre Sambo commune, Siem Pang district, and Rithy Sen Chey 1 village in O’Svay commune, Borey O’Svay Senchey district, Stung Treng Province.

Additionally, the Ministry of Agriculture has acknowledged 1,914.2367 hectares with five real estate titles issued by the Provincial Land Management Department on 27 November 2020 in Ban Bong village and Phluk village, Phluk commune, Sesan district.

Furthermore, 26,958.1910 hectares have been registered with 31 plots of immovable property titles issued by the Provincial Land Management Department on 4 December 2017, covering Kanchanh Teuk village, Kanchanh Kork village, Samrong village, Sre Sambo commune, Siem Pang district, and Na Ong village, Rithy Sen Chey 1 village, O’Svay commune, Borey O’Svay Senchey district, Stung Treng province.

During the COVID-19 pandemic, fraudulent parties encouraged illegal encroachments on land owned by the Ministry of Agriculture, demonstrating blatant disregard for the law. Despite multiple warnings, educational efforts, and contractual agreements by local authorities and the provincial Department of Agriculture, the illegal occupants have refused to vacate the land.

In response to the persistent illegal occupation, the Stung Treng Provincial Department of Agriculture has set a final deadline for the occupants to dismantle their structures and vacate the land.
