China Accelerates High-Speed Mobile Network Development in Cambodia

As Cambodia embarks on its digital transformation, the push for advanced mobile connectivity is gaining momentum with significant Chinese investment. The ambitious initiative aims for 100% high-speed internet coverage in urban centres and approximately 70% in rural areas by 2025.

This was confirmed by HE Wang Winpin, the Chinese Ambassador to Cambodia, at the recent Cambodia-China Digital Economic Cooperation Forum, held on November 4, 2024. He highlighted the vital role of Chinese investors in strengthening Cambodia’s telecommunications infrastructure. “The Chinese side has been actively involved in the construction of the mobile network in Cambodia and has improved the system’s coverage across the country,” Wang stated.

The forum underscored the necessity of investing in technological advancements, which are essential to enhancing the quality of life for Cambodians. Wang praised various Chinese enterprises for driving innovation through projects that incorporate artificial intelligence (AI), cloud technology, and speedy payment systems.

Deputy Prime Minister Aun Porn Moniroth echoed these sentiments, emphasizing the importance of digital innovations. He remarked, “For Cambodia, the development of the digital economy is regarded as a vital driving force in our economic growth.”

As these efforts unfold, Cambodia is poised to transform its digital landscape, paving the way for improved connectivity and economic development across the nation.
