Cambodian government prepares USD 100 million to complete nationwide land registration by 2029

The Cambodian government is allocating USD 100 million to finalize nationwide land registration by 2029 as part of a concerted effort to address longstanding land disputes. Prime Minister Samdech Thibodi Hun Manet announced this during the Ministry of Land Management, Urban Planning and Construction closing ceremony on November 26, 2024.

The Prime Minister emphasized the government’s commitment to resolving land disputes, viewing this initiative as a crucial objective in its seventh mandate. The plan includes training over 5,000 officials to conduct land surveys nationwide. He also urged provincial leaders to expedite their efforts so that citizens can fully utilize their land for various purposes by 2029.

According to the Ministry of Land Management, significant progress has already been made. As of November 19, 2024, 3,144,485 plots, or 66.19% of the total, have been registered. There are still 1,605,522 unmeasured plots remaining, which account for 33.81%, and it is anticipated that this work will be completed by 2025.

Additionally, from November 1, 2023, to October 30, 2024, the Ministry issued 1,034,624 state land registration cards and 44 special cards. The Ministry is also prepared to issue 4,423 cards to citizens for land adjacent to the archaeological sites in Siem Reap and Bakong temples, along with 24 cards for the state, represented by the Ministry of Culture and Fine Arts.

To date, Cambodia has registered over 7.7 million plots of land, with just over 1.5 million plots left to be completed. The Ministry also focuses on registering state land, land belonging to indigenous communities, and land associated with Buddhist pagodas. (Read more)
