Phnom Penh Autonomous Port Reported Significant Growth in 2024

In a remarkable showcase of economic activity, the Phnom Penh Autonomous Port (PPAP) has reported impressive financial and operational results for the year 2024. According to a press release dated 14 and 16 January 2025, the port generated a total revenue of USD 41,588,172, marking an increase of 21% compared to 2023. This achievement was fuelled by a notable rise in container throughput, with nearly 500,000 twenty-foot equivalent units (TEUs) passing through the port.

The breakdown of the revenue reveals that port operations contributed USD 34,563,756, also up by 21%, while revenue from port authorities increased to USD 5,834,481, and revenue from other services grew by 2% to USD 1,189,935.

Regarding container traffic, PPAP recorded 480,200 TEUs in 2024, reflecting a 21.91% increase from 396,225 TEUs in 2023. The port also handled an impressive total of 4,806,654 tons of cargo and fuel, up 15.91% year-on-year, and saw a surge in cargo ships, with 4,894 vessels visiting the port—an increase of 26.8%.

Tourism at the port also thrived, with 708 tourist boats docking and carrying a total of 36,150 passengers, a significant increase of 43.73% compared to the previous year.

His Excellency Phorn Rim, the Ministry of Public Works and Transport spokesman, attributed this growth to the overall upsurge in economic activity. “This increase indicates a robust flow of transport and trade, particularly highlighting the positive trajectory of the economy,” he stated.

As the second largest port in Cambodia, PPAP’s successful year is a strong indicator of the region’s thriving economic landscape, underscoring the port’s importance in facilitating trade and tourism.
