New Public Restrooms Coming to Phnom Penh’s Walk Street

In a fantastic move to enhance the visitor experience, the Phnom Penh Municipal Administration is set to build an additional 37 public restrooms along the vibrant Walk Street, which has recently been recognised as the second-best destination in the world for nightlife. This announcement was officially shared on social media on 2 May 2025, reflecting the city’s commitment to accommodating its growing number of tourists.

Under the direction of HE Khuong Sreng, Governor of the Phnom Penh Municipal Government, the forthcoming facilities will include 22 restrooms for men, equipped with 10 sitting rooms and 12 standing toilets, 14 dedicated women’s restrooms, and a specially designed bathroom for individuals with disabilities.

In tandem with this initiative, plans are underway for a significant renovation of a 172-metre stretch of the scenic riverbank, alongside a 22-metre slope, aimed at elevating the aesthetic appeal of the area. The riverbank renovation is scheduled for completion within a month, while the restroom construction is expected to take around three months.

Mr. Sam Piseth, Director of the Phnom Penh Municipal Department of Public Works and Transport, expressed that both projects are geared towards preparing for the upcoming Royal Boat Festival and ensuring that tourists enjoy a comfortable and welcoming experience in the popular Walk Street area.

This development not only underscores the city’s dedication to improving public amenities but also aims to enrich the overall atmosphere of Phnom Penh’s lively nightlife, inviting both locals and tourists to enjoy the best of what the city has to offer.
