Cambodia Launches Ambitious 4-Year Clean City Competition

The Government of Cambodia, in collaboration with the Ministry of Tourism, has kicked off the 4th Clean City Competition, a four-year initiative set to run from 2026 to 2029. The competition aims to enhance the aesthetic appeal, environmental cleanliness, and overall orderliness of cities and districts throughout the nation.

At the launch ceremony held today, H.E. Huot Hak, Minister of Tourism and Chairman of the National Clean City Assessment Committee, underscored the importance of this initiative in bolstering the tourism sector. “Our goal is to inspire and motivate cities and districts that have made commendable efforts in organizing and developing their localities into clean, smart, and green urban spaces,” he stated. “This competition exemplifies our commitment to fostering environments that are not only welcoming but also competitive in economic and social realms.”

The Clean City Competition aims to transform urban landscapes across Cambodia, promoting a culture of cleanliness and order. Minister Hak emphasized that this movement will enhance the appeal of Cambodian tourism, thereby improving the quality and vibrancy of tourism services. “A clean and hospitable environment is essential for a thriving tourism sector,” he added.

Complementing this initiative, the Ministry of Tourism has introduced the campaign “Clean Cities, Clean Resorts, Good Services, Good Hospitality.” This campaign is designed to elevate the standard of tourism services and products in urban areas, while also bolstering the reputation and competitiveness of Cambodian tourism on both regional and global stages. The country aims to excel in prestigious awards such as the ASEAN Homestay Awards and ASEAN Spa Service Standards Awards, showcasing its commitment to excellence.

Through the Clean City Competition and related campaigns, the Royal Government of Cambodia seeks to create vibrant, welcoming environments that benefit both residents and visitors, driving sustainable growth in the tourism sector for years to come.
