Japanese Firm YACHIYO Engineering Eyes Wastewater Treatment Investment in Sihanoukville

YACHIYO Engineering Co., Ltd., a leading Japanese engineering consultancy, has announced its intention to invest in wastewater treatment development projects in Sihanoukville. This announcement came during a recent meeting between Prime Minister Hun Manet and YACHIYO’s President, Demizu Shigemitsu, held as part of an official visit to Tokyo from 28-31 May 2025.

During the discussions, Shigemitsu provided updates on YACHIYO’s ongoing waste treatment projects in Cambodia and expressed enthusiasm for expanding their operations in the region. He emphasised that the proposed investment would introduce advanced technologies and expertise to Cambodia, aiming to enhance social and economic development.

Shigemitsu highlighted the company’s innovative solutions for addressing waterborne infectious diseases, which could significantly improve public health and hygiene standards in the country. He also noted the company’s commitment to participating in the development of smart cities, emphasising a holistic approach to urban planning and management.

Prime Minister Hun Manet welcomed YACHIYO’s interest, underscoring the importance of waste management and wastewater treatment in meeting the needs of Cambodian citizens, which, he noted, are akin to those of the Japanese. He reiterated the government’s support for companies investing in waste management projects, recognizing their crucial role in enhancing the quality of life for the populace.

Founded in 1963, YACHIYO Engineering is one of Japan’s largest and most influential engineering firms, actively involved in diverse projects across over 100 countries worldwide. This partnership marks a significant milestone in Cambodia’s ongoing efforts to tackle wastewater management challenges and build sustainable, healthy communities as the country continues to progress in its development goals.
