Japan Expands Water Supply Operations in Cambodia

Marubeni Asian Power Singapore Pte. Ltd. has announced plans to expand its water supply business in Cambodia, where it currently operates in four provinces: Takeo, Prey Veng, Siem Reap, and Kratie.

The announcement follows a significant meeting between His Excellency Chea Wutthy, Secretary General of the Cambodia Investment Committee, and Mr. IKEYA Yusuke, Vice President of Marubeni Asian Power, held on August 6. During their discussion, His Excellency highlighted the conducive investment climate in Cambodia, which is bolstered by an attractive incentive regime and supportive measures from the Royal Government to enhance the business landscape.

Mr. IKEYA Yusuke presented an overview of the company’s operations, specifically focusing on Khmer Water Supply Holdings (KWSH), which has been dedicated to providing clean and pure drinking water in the aforementioned provinces since its establishment in 2013. The company’s expansion plans align with the growing demand for water supply services in the region.

In a bid to broaden its operations, the Secretary General urged the company to explore opportunities in Svay Rieng and Bavet provinces, both of which host numerous industrial clusters but currently lack a unified water treatment and supply system. His Excellency expressed confidence that such initiatives would significantly improve infrastructure in these areas.

The Secretary General also encouraged Marubeni Asian Power to expedite its investment decisions in Cambodia to take full advantage of the incentives outlined in the country’s Investment Law.

As the demand for a reliable water supply continues to rise in Cambodia, this expansion reflects Marubeni’s commitment to supporting the country’s development and enhancing the quality of life for its residents.
