Korean Community Aims to Enhance Cambodia’s Water Resources and Meteorology Sectors

In a recent meeting held on July 23, 2025, the Korea Rural Community Corporation (KRC) expressed its commitment to assist in the development of Cambodia’s water resources and meteorology sectors. The meeting featured His Excellency Pon Sacha, Secretary of State and Director of the Republic of Korea-funded project, alongside Mr. Kim Jong-kyung, the KRC representative.

During the discussion, Mr. Kim highlighted the KRC’s extensive experience—spanning over a century—in managing irrigation systems and developing water resource strategies in Korea, as well as in various developing nations, including Cambodia. He emphasized the organization’s readiness to leverage modern technology to support Cambodia’s water management and meteorological efforts as part of the official development assistance provided by the Korean government.

H.E. Pon Sacha expressed gratitude towards the KRC and provided insights into the Ministry’s current initiatives within the water and meteorology sectors. He outlined ongoing collaborations with international development partners, particularly with Korea, and discussed strategic plans for future growth in these vital areas.

In a related development, it has been reported that over the past two decades, the Korean government has contributed approximately USD 450 million to bolster Cambodia’s efforts in enhancing its water resources and meteorological capabilities. This information was shared during a meeting on July 9, 2025, between His Excellency Tho Jetha, Minister of the Ministry of Water Resources and Meteorology, and Ms. Minnie Chey, Executive Director of the Korea Export-Import Bank (K-EXIMBANK) in Cambodia.
