Cambodia and COFCO Forge New Trade Partnership for Dried Cassava Exports to China

In a significant development for agricultural trade, Cambodia and COFCO Biotechnology Co., Ltd. have announced a major initiative to export 500,000 tons of dried cassava to China. This agreement was formalized through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed on August 21, 2025, during a ceremony attended by key officials from the Ministry of Commerce and a high-level delegation from Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region.

Hon. Cham Nimman, the Minister of Commerce, emphasized the importance of this agreement as a reflection of the Royal Government’s commitment to promoting local products and expanding market access. He highlighted the government’s efforts to enhance production and processing capabilities to meet international quality standards, which are vital for integrating Cambodia into the regional supply chain.

This latest MoU is part of a broader strategy, as the Ministry of Commerce has worked diligently in the past six months to secure commitments for exporting a total of over 700,000 tons of dried cassava to China. Notably, this new agreement for 500,000 tons builds on an earlier MoU signed in March 2025 for the export of 200,000 tons of dried rice.

The Minister reiterated that these partnerships not only demonstrate the growing confidence in Cambodian agricultural products but also mark a significant step forward in enhancing trade cooperation between Cambodia and China. With these initiatives, Cambodia aims to further solidify its position as a key player in the agricultural export market, paving the way for future opportunities and growth.
